Note. This page is about the old MikTeX installation. The new TeX Live installation should just work with Vista.
Although the CD hasn't been designed with Vista in mind, the following procedure should give you a working installation:
- For each of gs854w32-gpl.exe, gsv48w32.exe and setup.exe,
right-click the icon, choose
Properties
, select the compatibility tab and select compatibility with Windows XP. - Run gs854w32-gpl.exe and gsv48w32.exe as administrator and install for all users.
- Run setup.exe as administrator. Pick a directory under \Users\<your account> for your own macros and fonts.
- Re-login after the setup program has completed.
- Before you try to use MikTeX, you have to generate a filename
database for your own account. click Start,
Programs, MikTeX25, and then MikTeX Settings. Click
on the General tab the
Refresh FNDB
button in the Maintenance panel.
Explanation: The installer will generate a filename database and other files for the wrong user. The final step above ensures that the right user will have a filename database too. Other necessary files pose no problem since they will be generated on the fly.
